Expecting the Unexpected

January 23, 2015

We have now had two weekly small group meetings!! These meetings have been a great time together and we've had new faces join us each week. On Saturday evenings we meet at our house, have a meal together, as well as a discussion time for the adults and a lesson for the kids. Last week I was so glad to have my family here, and my brother joined Jon on the guitar during the music portion. Each week is a great time.

After four and a half months of framing, Jon made the very difficult decision to leave a risky industry to find something else.  A man he was working with was very badly injured when he fell, right to Jon's feet. Thus, he was back on the job search. We have been so uplifted by all the support and prayers sent our way. Thank you for encouraging us!

I really wanted to wait until 'later' to write to you. I wanted to write this newsletter after it was all wrapped up, solved, fixed. I wanted to wait until we were on the other end of the tunnel. However, that is not where we are today. Today we are in the middle of the inner chaos and outer unknown. We have had some challenging conversations here at the Simmonds house.

This has left our family in sort of a scary place: setting with no income and plenty of bills. Fighting to have faith and struggling to find a replacement job. I realize that this is a place where many people find themselves. It is a balancing act of trust in provision and money in the bank account. Please pray that beyond getting another job and being able to pay the bills; that we will  develop a deeper knowledge of the faithfulness of our God. Rather than trusting that "we can do it" while there is a certain dollar amount in the bank, we will know that "God will do it" through us, regardless, if only we continue to follow.

We feel confident that we are where we are supposed to be and that God has led us here for a reason. Thank you for encouraging us and supporting us along the way.

Sincerely,

Amanda Simmonds

 Goals:

  • Clearly communicate what the core of The Table is about, in such a way that will motivate others to become part of this ministry.

  • Launch thetablestc.org

  • Build solid relationships throughout our community.

Cool things

  • Jan 10th was our first small group meeting! There were 21 of us on the 10th and 24 of us on the 17th, eating, worshiping and learning together.

  • We will have an opportunity in February and March to serve together at a community event.

  • Abi invited a friend from school "to church", we were so glad that she joined us last Saturday.

 Prayers

  • Please pray that finances will not be a hinderance for anything that we need to do on this mission.

  • We intend to help each person that is part of The Table, to find their role in this ministry. Please pray that everyone will find their sweet spot.

  • With 20+ Adults and Kids meeting in a home we are already challenged by spacing needs.  Pray that we would be wise in our decisions on how to provide adequate space for growth.

Abi received recognition at school this month as having the characteristic of FORGIVENESS.  We were so proud to go see her receive the award.

Clay cannot wait for the weather to warm up enough to ride bikes. His favorite movie to watch is The Lego Movie.

We are looking for opportunities to invite people in to our home to build relationships and show the love God has for us all.
