Have you ever wanted something? Not needed, but really WANTED something you didn’t have?
As adults, we often have the means and ability to find or purchase whatever thing captures our attention. But if I’m honest, there have been times in adulthood when I’ve felt more like a child wanting something that was out of reach financially or simply an unwise purchase. It is in those moments I’ve been tempted to look at the ‘Tithe’ line of our budget and dream about all the other things that 10% could do!
In 2 Corinthians 9:6, Jesus reminds me why we continue to dedicate the first portion of our income to the Lord.
6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9 As the Scriptures say,
“They share freely and give generously to the poor.
Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”
I’m always humbled when I remember how faithful He has been to provide for my needs- often in miraculous ways! When I surrender my desires to God, I am amazed at the way He ensures there is “plenty left over to share with others.” This week consider how God has so generously provided everything you need and make a plan for how you might ‘plant generously’ with your resources.
