Tim Is one of my best friends, but we have not always been friends. In eighth grade, Tim and I got partnered up for a school project. We were complete opposites. Tim was a quiet shy kid that would have rather played video games than to play sports or run through the woods. So every day for about two weeks, Tim would ride the bus home with me to work on our project. After the project was complete and we presented it to our class, Tim and I stayed friends and after a summer of investing time into our friendship, he became my best friend.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
The way to grow in your walk with the Lord is to spend time reading and meditating in His Word. See we must spend time in His Word to get to know Him. Just like Tim and I would have never become best friends if we would not have invested our time into growing our friendship. Our focus shouldn’t be on the knowledge of the Word, although that is important, but our focus as we read should instead be on our relationship with Him. His Word is sharper than any sword and will minister to us in all areas of our lives. It will reveal what is in our heart and give us wisdom in every situation we are in.
We need to remember that the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but that the Bible is the Word of God. It’s God’s truth and that is why it is so important that we know what it says. His Word brings power and life to each one of us when we spend time reading it.
God’s Word is life-changing. Not only does it discern what is within us but His word reveals His will for us as well. He has given us all of Himself through His Word, so the challenge for us is to make sure to spend time with Him by reading and Meditating on His word.
