The TableKids have been learning about courage this month. They’ve been reading through the story of Moses, but their memory verse comes from Joshua 1:9b.
Joshua was being encouraged to have a confidence in the Lord. Confidence in God will always lead you in the right direction, even though things may still be hard or intimidating at times. We can be brave and strong because we know who our God is. And our success in this life is dependent on God being with us. God gives us abilities in this life to fulfill his calling. But sometimes we still feel like we’re not fully equipped or quite ready to do what he wants us to. However, when we understand that he is with us always, we have the confidence and strength to do them anyways.
Our kids need to know that they can do things when they seem impossible, when they’re not sure how it’s going to work out, when people are afraid, or when they don’t feel ready. As their mentors, we need to be the ones encouraging them to do these things. I hope they feel like they can get through school even when they hate it. I hope they believe they can try something new even when they’re unsure of it. I hope they have the courage to stand up for someone when no one else does. And I pray every day that we’re the people encouraging them to feel those things and letting them know that their God is with them always.
