John 13:34 "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other."
For 27 years of my life, I lived within 95 miles of the house grew up in. 13 years of public education, college, marriage, ministry, first real job, having kids - everything, in the same, small, universe. Even in new experiences, there was a foundation of familiarity. I felt lucky to be so close to home all those years and I tried not to take that for granted. What I didn't realize, was how the familiarity undergirded all of my relationships. Over the last 12 months, I have used my "relationship muscles" more than ever before.
This Saturday we celebrated a year of building relationships, The Table turned ONE! It's been one year since we moved here and The Table began. In 12 months our family has met many new friends and built amazing new relationships. We have been challenged, loved, stretched and grown in our dependance on God. To us, successful relationships mean: humility, courage, trust, vulnerability, care, interest, and lots of grace. In John 13:34, Jesus tells us the key to building relationships: love. each other. like Jesus. loved us.
Jesus came to earth to build a way for us to have a relationship with God. His whole mission and purpose was and is about relationship: relationship with us, with each other, with our Father. Relationships is something the Simmonds family talks about all the time. Our family's mission statement might be something like this: to communicate the love of Christ to people around us in a very real and practical way. Consequently, that means a lot of relationship building.
We are super excited about what is ahead for our second year of church planting in St. Charles!! There is definitely lots of work ahead, and a great group of people to do it with!! We continue to ask for your prayers in all of this! We know, with out a doubt, that we could not do it without your support.
Abi started 3rd grade last week, her second school year in St. Charles. She loves school and is already making friends. For the first time, she will be participating in Girls on the Run and is also returning to Awana Clubs for the 2nd year. Abi, her cousin Lennon and their Nonny and Poppy enjoyed Camp Sharon very much this year! It was Lennon and Abi's first year as campers! We greatly appreciate the staff and volunteers who give their time to make camp happen every year!
Clay will be 5 in two and 1/2 months - crazy! He is getting so good at writing letters, reading words and adding numbers. Unlike Abi, given the option, he would opt to stay home in almost any situation. He loves to draw and write, play legos and trains, and anything super heros! Clay will also get to do Awana Club again this year, he's building his relationship muscles getting to know new kids.
Thank you so much for continuing to pray for our family.
