I absolutely love stories of needs being met by the church. A few week ago we had the amazing opportunity to serve at a fundraising banquet for an organization called Faith Haven House. They are striving to meet a need that no one else in the area is providing. They are gathering the funds to build the only shelter for homeless men in St. Charles County. The founder and president, Dareth Jeffers, served meals at the Salvation Army and was burdened when she became aware that no shelters for homeless men existed in this area. So she has stepped forward. In Acts 2, there was a need. How did the Disciples respond? Check it out:
14 Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. 15 These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that. 16 No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel:
17 ‘In the last days,’ God says,
‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
18 In those days I will pour out my Spirit
even on my servants—men and women alike—
and they will prophesy.
19 And I will cause wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below—
blood and fire and clouds of smoke.
20 The sun will become dark,
and the moon will turn blood red
before that great and glorious day of the Lord arrives.
21 But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved.’
"Then Peter stepped forward." What needs are in your family, neighborhood, community, or church? Perhaps the Holy Spirit is encouraging you to step forward and do something incredible. Just remember that a mile is not accomplished in one step...but it does take one step to start the trek towards the mile.
With sincere love for each of you,
